Information for Referrers
How do I refer for neuropsychological assessment?

If you have a client you would like to refer for neuropsychological assessment, the most efficient process is for individuals and families to contact Jenni directly to discuss and arrange services*. If you are unsure whether neuropsychological assessment is indicated, please call Jenni to discuss and plan options. A referral from a treating clinician is not necessary, but any supporting documentation outlining current treatment and presenting concerns is extremely helpful.

* The exception to this are referrals of children and young people in Out of Home Care via Department of Communities and Justice or Non-Government Organisations - please see below.

How do I know if neuropsych is needed?

There can be a number of reasons a person might seek or benefit from a neuropsychological assessment. This can be to aid with treatment planning, to support an assessment process by providing information from a range of domains including cognitive profile, or to address specific cognitive concerns observed or voiced by a client/caregivers. Neuropsychological assessment can be helpful in providing additional information when the presentation and/or needs of a young person are complex. Jenni is accustomed to working within a multidisciplinary setting, and views the role of the neuropsychologist as providing another puzzle piece to help in understanding and supporting the young people with whom we work.

I work for Department of Communities and Justice or a Non-Government Organisation in the Out of Home Care sector - how do I make a referral?

If you are a clinician or caseworker with the Department of Communities and Justice/Nongovernment Organisation and you have a client you think may benefit from neuropsychological assessment, please contact Jenni directly to discuss and obtain a referral form.

If an assessment is required, please provide Jenni with the following essential details for generating a quote:

1) Child full name

2) ChildStory/Person identification number (if available)

3) Date of Birth

Jenni will forward to you the quote for processing by your relevant finance team. Once quote approval has been received (in the form of a purchase order or written confirmation of approval), Jenni will organise an appointment either directly with the child's caregivers or via a nominated service contact person - whichever works best for the family.

Jenni provides feedback on the assessment both directly to caregivers and to the referring clinician/ caseworker. Neuropsychological services provided to DCJ/NGo include a comprehensive neuropsychological report, in addition to verbal feedback. Jenni will also liaise with schools and other professionals involved in a child's care as required.
